mutual exchange

A mutual exchange allows customers to move by swapping their property with another customer, whether they are a bdht customer or a customer of another housing association.

First you need to find a customer who is willing to swap their property. You can do this through adverts in the local newspaper, shop windows or in the Mutual Exchange book located in the reception at bdht. Mutual Exchange will soon be advertised on the Home Choice Plus web site. Watch this space for details. Once you have found someone who wishes to do a mutual exchange with you, you need to phone bdht and submit a request for a mutual exchange.

Both parties will then fill in a mutual exchange form. We must approve the exchange before it can go ahead, but we cannot unreasonably deny the request. Reasonable reasons for refusal include situations where the accommodation is substantially larger than is reasonable or either party has rent arrears.
