leaseholder
When you buy a flat or maisonette previously owned by bdht you will usually purchase a long lease. This allows you and your successors to live in it for a fixed time, usually 125 years. The block will still be owned by the Trust and we will be responsible for the upkeep of the structure, exterior and communal parts of the block and grounds.
The Trust will provide most services to communal areas, such as repairs, lighting, cleaning and caretaking, where these apply to your block of flats and as a leaseholder, you will have to pay a share of the cost of these repairs and services which are called Service Charges.
Service Charges are detailed in the lease for your flat and should be fully understood before completing the purchase. if you have any queries or concerns about this please contact Judy Sanders free on 0800 0850 160 or email judy.sanders@bdht.co.uk .
