your responsibilities

Your rent is due every week on a Monday.  If you pay your rent weekly, you must pay on a Monday; if you pay every two weeks or monthly you must pay in advance.  The cheapest and easiest way to pay your rent is by direct debit and we can collect this on the 1st or 15th of each month.  If you have problems paying your rent, please give us a call, we can help you with household budgeting and managing your money so that you are never in danger of losing your home because you have rent arrears.

If you are a joint tenant, you are both responsible for the full rent, so if you split up with your partner, get in touch with us so we can help you work out your payments and check if you are entitled to any benefits.

When you sign your Tenancy Agreement you are immediately responsible for the full rent; if you think you are entitled to housing benefit to pay your rent, you must claim for it as soon as you become the legal tenant and you must move in straight away. If you don’t move in, you won’t be entitled to housing benefit and so will have to pay the rent yourself.  If you are not sure if you will be able to claim housing benefit, contact us and we will help you check. You can also check on line at www.entitledto.co.uk, just enter your income and the calculator will tell you if you are likely to get benefit – but if you are, you must then claim straight away as housing benefit will not be backdated to before you hand in your application form and provide proof of your income.
