The Starlight Café & Community Centre in Charford, Bromsgrove, established by Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) has been given a brand new look, thanks to joint efforts by the Starlight team and employees from the marketing department from Halfords head office.
The initiative saw 27 team members from the marketing team at Halfords work with Darran Moore, Manager of the Starlight Café and Ashlea Green, bdht’s Sheltered Living Services Manager, as well as café staff and regular volunteers to transform the centre’s décor with a fresh and exciting new look.
This includes a complete overhaul of the training room, toilets, hallways and IT rooms. Beyond that, the centre will also be expanding on this effort with more renovation and refurbishment works in January which will feature new blinds, pictures, furniture, wall decor and more.
Speaking on behalf of the Starlight Café and Community Centre, Darran Moore, Starlight Centre Manager for bdht said: “This is our first redecorating and refurbishment effort since Starlight’s inception in 2012. We were excited to work with volunteers from the marketing team at Halfords in giving the centre the look and feel that will make it cosier and even more welcoming for all our volunteers and visitors.”
Ashlea concluded: “The Community Centre has been instrumental in promoting a wide range of skills enhancement and personal development programmes for members of our community. This makeover demonstrates our continued commitment to the community and we hope that it will get staff and volunteers excited about new activities that we have lined up in 2017.”
Karen Bellairs, Marketing Director at Halfords, commented: “As a team we were looking for an opportunity to give back to the local community and when we found out the Starlight Cafe was in need of decorating it was a perfect fit. It was hard work decorating eight rooms in just one day but we had a lot of fun and we are very grateful to Ashlea and everyone at the community centre who looked after us on the day. It was wonderful to see the finished result and we hope the people that regularly use the fantastic facilities at the Starlight Cafe like it too!”
The team at Halfords also took the time to help the Café redesign its menu to appeal to a wider range of customers and audiences. Those interested in experiencing the new Starlight Café & Community Centre can head over to Humphrey Avenue in Charford. The Café is open Monday to Thursday from 10am to 4pm and on Friday from 10am to 2pm.
The Community Centre offers a range of courses and services, such as youth groups, disability youth groups, autism and Asperger syndrome groups, weekly craft groups, drug and alcohol recovery sessions and much more.
