Social housing provider Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) has announced its latest plans in the scheduled £1 million improvement works at the Burcot estate.

The works will include new windows and flat entrance door replacements, roofline, render and canopy replacements and communal area enhancement, as well as new lighting, fire alarm upgrades and bin stores. The project will also deliver extensive landscaping improvements, with the inclusion of additional outdoor seating areas and bike racks.

Burcot estate was previously identified as a key site to be regenerated as part of bdht’s ongoing commitment towards improving and enhancing local communities for the residents across Bromsgrove.

Mark Robertson, chief executive at bdht, commented: “This regeneration plan has been under scrutiny lately but the £1 million investment into Burcot estate is demonstrative of our ongoing commitment towards continually reviewing and enhancing homes and our services for residents and the wider Bromsgrove community.

“We have had some delays at this site, due to Covid-19 restrictions, which has been out of our hands, but we are committed to delivering these much-needed improvements to the Burcot estate and want to improve the neighbourhood, which benefits residents and the local community.

“Despite these plans, we are aware that some of the problems our residents experience is due to the acute shortage of affordable rented housing of all types across Bromsgrove in particular larger family homes. This is continuing to put a huge strain on services and adversely impacting the quality of life of so many people.  We are committed towards working in conjunction with the Council and councillors to tackle this crisis on a local level.”

The scheduled commencement date for the works is from the end of June. The social housing provider is committed towards engaging with residents throughout the redevelopment and will be hosting a consultation event later in May. Residents will be able to inform key decisions such as the selection of the contractor, as well as colours and finishes to the interior and exterior communal areas and exterior enhancements such as landscaping and lighting. The redevelopment of Burcot estate is expected to be completed by March 2022.

bdht is a registered provider of social housing, serving the district of Bromsgrove and surrounding areas.
