Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) is supporting Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 5th February by sharing its Top Online Tips to help residents stay protected.

This is the latest step in a long-running Digital Inclusion Initiative by the housing provider aimed at giving communities across Bromsgrove better access to vital online services and building confidence when using computers.

bdht’s Top Online Tips:

  • Create complex, unique passwords – nothing obvious like birthdays or the name of a pet
  • Keep your privacy settings as high as possible, limiting what information you share when online
  • Don’t overshare – keep your personal details private, as people can use these to impersonate you or to try and hack your passwords
  • Click carefully – don’t click any links from emails that you are not expecting or are unsure of
  • Secure shopping – only purchase goods or services from secure websites. Also, if a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is!

Beverley Green, ICT Projects Manager at bdht, said: “As part of our ongoing customer support programme, we offer training to help people get online, increasing access to vital services. An important element of this is teaching people to stay safe and protect their details when using the internet. These tips will hopefully ensure they can safeguard themselves online.”
