Anti-social behaviour (ASB)

Everyone deserves to feel safe and comfortable in their home and neighbourhood.

We take anti-social behaviour seriously and will take action where needed, while working with partners to support and resolve issues as quickly as possible.

What is anti-social behaviour?

Anti-social behaviour (ASB) is behaviour that causes nuisance, alarm or distress to others.

This can include:

  • noise nuisance (for example, loud music or parties)
  • threatening or abusive behaviour
  • harassment or intimidation
  • vandalism or damage to property
  • drug misuse or illegal activity
  • ongoing disturbance affecting neighbours

If you’re unsure whether something is ASB, please contact us—we’ll help you understand your options.

How to report ASB

We’ve made it easy to report concerns so we can take action quickly.

You can report ASB by:

If the situation is urgent or you feel unsafe, call 999 straight away.

What happens after you report an issue

We will:

  • Acknowledge your report
  • Assess the situation and agree next steps with you
  • Take appropriate action or refer to the right organisation
  • Keep you informed about progress

We aim to respond promptly and keep you updated so you know what is happening.

Mediation and resolving issues early

Not all ASB requires formal action.

In some cases—especially where issues involve neighbours—mediation can help resolve problems early.

Mediation is:

  • a voluntary and confidential process
  • led by an independent, trained mediator
  • focused on helping both sides talk through the issue and find a way forward

We may suggest mediation where it is safe and appropriate. It can often resolve issues more quickly and help maintain positive relationships between neighbours.

When something is a police matter

Some situations are more serious and should be reported directly to the police.

This includes:

  • immediate danger or violence
  • threats or intimidation where you feel unsafe
  • hate crime or harassment
  • drug dealing or serious criminal activity

Always call 999 in an emergency.

For non-emergency police matters, you can call 101.

We will still work with the police and support you where needed, but it’s important these incidents are reported directly so action can be taken quickly.

How we work with others

Anti-social behaviour is not something we tackle alone.

We work closely with:

  • the police
  • local councils
  • support services and community partners

This helps us take appropriate action and support everyone involved.

Support for residents

We understand that experiencing ASB can be stressful.

We will:

  • listen carefully to your concerns
  • treat you with respect and sensitivity
  • support you through the process
  • signpost you to additional help if needed

What you can do

You can help by:

  • reporting issues early
  • keeping a note of what has happened, if you can
  • being considerate of neighbours and shared spaces

Our approach

We are committed to:

  • taking all reports seriously
  • acting fairly and consistently
  • keeping residents informed about their case
  • using a range of solutions, including mediation and enforcement
  • working in partnership to resolve issues
