A partnership between Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) and J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Ltd has seen the completion of a 33-home affordable housing development in Stourport.
The Vale Road scheme will bring much-needed affordable homes to the area by providing one- and two-bedroom apartments.
Five homes have been built to comply with wheelchair adaptable standards, including features such as wider entry points, larger bathrooms with grab rails and lowered sinks and toilets, ramps, and allowances for stairlifts, assistive technology and modified kitchen layouts.
bdht’s latest development has been built on the site of the former Chichester Caravan site, putting redundant land back into use to offer accessible, affordable homes.
In addition to completing the new bdht homes, J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Ltd also refreshed surrounding areas, which include an access road and drives, paving, landscaping and planting, as well as fencing and metal railings. On a wider scope, highways adaptations were completed along with maintaining the retaining features of the site.
Vale Road will not only help meet local housing needs in Stourport but also support the town’s ongoing regeneration and long-term social and economic growth.
Antony Rees, MD of J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Ltd, said: “We are proud to have delivered another high-quality and much-needed affordable housing project in partnership with our valued client, bdht.
“This project is a testament to the determination and hard work of all parties involved and serves as a fine example of how re-purposing under-utilised brownfield sites brings a wealth of benefits to the community and helps meet local housing needs.
Louise Wooldridge, Development Delivery Manager at bdht, said: “This project reflects bdht’s commitment to building thriving, inclusive communities.
“Working with J. Harper & Sons (Leominster) Ltd has allowed us to not only deliver these much-needed homes but also address local feedback by enhancing the surrounding environment through thoughtful landscaping and infrastructure improvements.
“Vale Road will play a vital role in Stourport’s regeneration and we look forward to continuing this momentum of building more homes, providing accessible living and investing in energy efficiency to create better outcomes for our residents.”
bdht recently agreed a £100m loan from NatWest to build additional affordable homes in and around Bromsgrove, as well as support its programme of energy improvements to existing homes, so residents’ energy bills are kept to a minimum.
